One of our core competencies is our Strategic Planning process. This is deeply involved and of course unique to the particular scenario. It requires carte blanche access, and candid levels of communication and interactions. The result will offer a strategic perspective that can be acted upon, and one that will not be able to be obtained inhouse. This is our speciality.
Managing according to the bottom line has always been part of business. A hazard of an over emphasis on this style of management is the possibility of losing strategic situational awareness. In order to prevent this type of strategic drift a carefully constructed and dynamic monitoring and correcting system needs to be established - within this control system - that allows the system to develop and grow while maintaining the predefined strategic profile. Ongoing assessment, review, and recalibration will prevent dangerous strategic drift. Our strategy consultants can assist you in harnessing this strategic advantage.
It’s the people that make organisations. All aspects of what make us human make us susceptible to positive and negative influences; that affect the wider system. In an Organisation’s culture we often find the reasons for success or failure. Capturing value can be achieved by talking, discussing, and deep reflection. Only outsiders are well placed to do this. They are better placed to see what you can’t and ask the questions that you are reluctant to ask. They will also be better placed to receive truthful answers. We are the outsiders.
The aspect of risk is considered at every stage in strategy development. Risk is a subject, function, and aspect in of itself, however, it’s also a factor that needs to be assessed, calibrated, and built into the organisation’s cultural mindset. It’s a complex field, and one that is more art than science, but it’s a field we consider deeply, and one where innovation can be rewarded.
Implementing Strategy correctly is as important as the entire strategic planning process. A business's success can often be attributed to controlled strategy implementation. It should be noted that the design of the strategy implementation process is tied closely and sometimes imperceptibly to the strategic planning process. This is the stage where the organisation takes control of their strategy. We can facilitate this process with you, by offering support, guidance, and backup during the transitional period.
All of our jobs, no matter their size, are typically managed according to project fundamentals. No project is too large or too small. The teams are assembled according to the requirements of the project. You will have the chance to vet the team; we feel there should be this opportunity before the work commences. An agreed upon monitoring and control format will be set up. Because of the unique nature of the work that we undertake there is no normal project profile. We can assure you that the team that will be working on the project will have been individually approved by you - the client - and will have our strategic focus as a delivery priority.
Of the methods of embedding strategy into an organisation, Training could be seen as one of the best ways. Through a focused and well-designed training program, we can aid in shifting the mindset of your organisation’s human resource. The aim is to infuse strategy into decision making. Sometimes this will require workshops, sometimes it will require coaching. Delivery will be in person, or via media channels such as video. We ensure the training program can be reliably accessed, often via existing IT infrastructure and resources. Although we embed training programs into the system, we should be seen as facilitators, who are supporting your people and helping them become strategically aligned solutions that work in their systems.
Data is everywhere, and yet it often leads to confusion rather than clarity. Whilst, managing according to KPIs is nothing new, doing so while enabling strategy is harder. Only robust strategic focus will ensure valuable datasets are captured, utilised, and maintained. We investigate, and drill down on macro, industry, and internal information in all its forms. We are a strategy house that can capture, and harness data for noble strategic aims.
Mining the layers of systems, procedures, and processes takes skill and determination. These organisational components will have taken time, and determination to set up. There will be considerable vested interests to navigate and often a reluctance to adopt new approaches. Because of this, meaningful change, when its required, is frequently prevented from occurring, as the system’s status quo will fight to maintain control. This reluctance to change hampers meaningful growth. Of course, there are exceptions to this picture, but this aspect of the silo mentality pervades organisational systems. Our Consultants aren’t susceptible to this type of bias, because we’re not part of the existing system. We have the ability to override these constrains. We circumvent fiefdoms and bring hinge players under control; we do this to deliver unfettered operational and strategic efficiency.

The Consultancy is led by Alistair Marner BA (Hons), MSc. Alistair has over 20 years’ experience in a diverse range of businesses including: The Leisure Marine Industry; Distribution and Transport; Construction; Tourism; Education and Training; Strategy Consultancy; and Operations Management. Amongst other qualifications, he has a First-Class Honours Degree in Business and Management, and a Master of Science Degree in Strategic Planning. Alistair is a Yachtmaster “Ocean”, with over 28000 miles of racing and cruising on his log. He enjoys the mountains, values exercise, and is the founder of POINT Strategy and Business School. Born in Windhoek, Namibia, Alistair is South African, British, and based in the UK.
